The primary setting for the show was a fictional street named Wisteria Lane. This was a fictional street, in a fictional town known as Fairview. The show centered on the lives of several women living on Wisteria Lane. The show was told through the voice of a deceased Wisteria Lane resident, who committed suicide in the first episode. The show aired for eight seasons and the story followed 13 years of the resident’s lives. The show was set between 2004 and 2008, followed by a five-year gap and then 2013 to 2017. Desperate Housewives showed viewers how the women worked through family issues and domestic struggles while uncovering secrets and solving crimes that were buried in a seemingly flawless and beautiful suburban neighborhood.

The first season of Housewives aired on October 3, 2004. The first season introduced the four primary characters. The third season aired on September 24, 2006. The primary mystery of the third season is Orson Hodge’s involvement with a recently found dead body. The fifth season aired on September 28, 2008. Season 5 opens after five years have passed from Season 4. There are several flashbacks, which show the events that occurred during the two periods. The Season 5 mystery involves Edie’s new husband, Dave Williams. Dave is seeking revenge on a Wisteria Lane resident, which turns out to be Mike. During Season 5, Susan manages being a single mother and Mike begins dating Katherine. Tom and Lynette discover their teenage son is having an affair with a married woman. Gabrielle has a difficult time adjusting to Carlos’ blindness and a financial catastrophe. Before she can expose Dave, Edie is killed by electrocution after a car crash.
The sixth season aired on Sunday, September 27, 2009. The primary mystery of Season 6 revolves around new neighbor Angie Bolen. During this season, Julie was strangled by an unknown assailant, Gabrielle struggles with her niece Ana Solis, Lynette’s tries to sue Carlos, Katherine struggles to cope with losing Mike to Susan and Bree has an affair with Karl. Season 6 witnesses a tragedy when Karl’s plane crashes with Bree, Karl and Orson aboard. After losing Mike, Katherine experiments with her sexuality. The seventh season aired on September 26, 2010. The primary mystery of Season 7 is the return of Paul on Wisteria Lane. Lynette’s friend, Renee Perry, from college moves on Wisteria Lane and creates trouble for the other housewives. During this season, Gabrielle and Carlos find out a disturbing fact about their daughter Juanita Solis, which takes them to Gabrielle’s home town. The eighth and final season aired on Sunday, September 25, 2011. The primary mystery of Season 8 is the death of Gabrielle’s stepfather Alejandro Perez. The housewives cover-up Alejandro’s death, which occurred in the Season 7 finale. Following the death of Alejandro, Bree receives a letter similar to the letter Mary Alice received in Season 1. Ben Faulkner, a new neighbor on Wisteria Lane grabs the attention of Renee. Ben is experiencing financial problems, and uses the help of a loan shark. Mike interferes with Ben’s loan shark and pays the ultimate price. During Season 8, Carlos becomes an alcoholic as a result of killing Alejandro and Gabrielle persuades him go to rehab. Tom moves out and Lynette has a hard time coping with how fast he has moved on. Mrs. McCluskey receives serious news about her health and decides to commit suicide, but Bree persuades her otherwise.
